Community Players of Hobbs, scene from stage play

The show must go on – even in the face of a pandemic. The Community Players of Hobbs have a five show 2021 season planned. Covid restrictions in New Mexico currently prohibit CPH from having an in-person audience, so all five performances will be streamed online. Ticket sales for that have not yet begun.

If the county advances to “green” status by the time the show opens, some in-person seats maybe offered in addition to the online broadcast, CPH spokeswoman Shoshana Howell said.

The season opens March 19 with a comedy, Mamma Don’t Fly, directed by Sandy Goad, the county probate judge. Aida, a youth workshop performance of Aladdin, Jr., Haunted House Extravaganza and the Trial of Ebenzer Scrooge are planned later in the year.

Last season the troupe only preformed one show, Arsenic and Old Lace before the pandemic forced closure.

Before that the Community Players of Hobbs Board of Directors must fill a vacancy left by the departure of Steve Anderson. The website says the meeting will be live and on Zoom. The board will recommend Arthur Jenkins to fill the seat.
