Hank Williams will live on in spirit this Friday during a concert event hosted by the Lea County Museum. The event will begin at 8:00 PM on July 16 and feature Austin musician Anthony Ray Wright and his ARW Band.
This is one of many events the Lea County Museum has scheduled for the summer. Museum director Jim Harris has put together a full slate of events to keep local residents and visitors entertained while learning about local history and culture. With this concert, the museum will be bringing attention to the early days of country music before the likes of Shania Twain and Taylor Swift brought it into the realm of pop music.
Country music has a rich history in the Southwest with its roots shaped by cowboy culture in the early 1900s. It’s influenced heavily by American folk music and blues and has since grown into a large genre of music encompassing several subsets such as bluegrass, honky tonk and outlaw country.
Hank Williams is a country music legend who was inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1961 with such hits as “Lovesick Blues”, “Hey, Good Lookin'” and “My Bucket’s Got a Hole in It”. Some of these songs and more will be performed by ARW at the museum Friday.
Wright and his band have performed across the country, and this will be his second time performing at the Lea County Museum.
The performance will take place at the Lea County Museum Pavilion, located east of the main museum building at 103 S. Love St. This will be an outdoor event, weather permitting, and is free to all. For more information call the Lea County Museum at 575-396-4805 or email leacomuseum@leaco.net.
