August 14, September 11, October 2 and November 6 seem like a long time away, but these four days – important to mark on your calendar – will arrive far sooner than you think and you’ll want to be ready for them.
On these four days the City of Hobbs will pick up and carry away at no charge to you large household items that you no longer want. This special pick up is in addition to your normal trash pick up and in no way affects it.
Formerly called Citywide Cleanup and now in 2021 renamed Large Item Pickup, the actual date the city will drop by your residence to collect your unwanted large items depends on where you live. According to a recent press release by City of Hobbs Director of Communications Meghan Mooney the schedule is:
August 14
Residences south of Broadway within the city limits
September 11
Residences between Broadway and Sanger within the city limits
October 2
Residences north of Sanger and west of Fowler within the city limits
November 6
Residences north of Sanger and east of Fowler within city the limits
All items should be set “all the way” out on the curb by 7:00 am on the day of your pickup. The pickup is only for large items. It is not for “general trash or trash bag service”.
SPECIAL THINGS TO REMEMBER
Item Placement
City employees will not pick up items that are not “all the way” to the curb. If items are in your yard or driveway, staff will not pick them up, as they will not be sure of “… what is to be considered trash and what is not, ” states Mooney.
Tires
Passenger tires will be picked up. Larger tires, like tractor and commercial tires, will not.
Chemicals
Chemicals that do not have the “original, legible manufacturer label on the container” will not be removed from properties. This policy is because the company that the city contracts to dispose of chemicals will not accept any that do not have original labels. “Due to this, the City of Hobbs is tasked with storing these chemicals indefinitely” says Mooney. Of course, the city cannot do this.
Hazardous Materials
Hazardous materials must be placed separately from nonhazardous materials. An example is wet paint.
ITEMS THAT WILL NOT BE PICKED UP
Biological waste
Commercial waste
Construction materials
Demolition materials
Tree limbs and plant cuttings that are longer than 4 feet. Cut these items to a length shorter than 4 feet, if you want them picked up.
IF YOU NEED HELP
The city will help you carry your large items out to the curb. If you need help, “call the City of Hobbs at (575)397- 9292 by noon on the Wednesday prior to your area’s Large Item Pickup in order to schedule the items to be moved to the curb for you,” says the press release.
“The City of Hobbs is proud to bring this year’s Large Item Pickup to our citizens to encourage and help with community beautification. We encourage all to get involved! Thank you for your participation in advance, and we look forward to cleaning out the clutter!”
