Lea County has a special treat for area residents and guests on Wednesday evening, September 22.
Award winning country singer/songwriter and recording artist Martina McBride is giving a FREE concert at the Lea County Fairgrounds. The event is hosted by Our Lea County and starts at 8:00 pm.
The Lea County Fairgrounds is located in Lovington at 101 South Commercial Street.
Wednesday night is not the first time McBride has performed in Lea County. In 2018, she was the headliner on a list of talented musicians who performed at the Lea County Fair and Rodeo.
McBride is well known for her pop style and country sounds. She is credited with eight albums that have advanced to the platinum rating. Some see her expressive manner much like that of Faith Hill and Shania Twain.
McBride has been named, not once but three times, by the Academy of Country Music (ACM) as Female Artist of the Year. According to the ACM website, McBride “built her magnificent career with an incredible voice and a talent for finding emotional songs that resonated with her audience.”
She has also been crowned by the County Music Association (CMA) as the organization’s Female Artist of the Year on four different occasions.
In 1995 McBride was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry and considers her induction into the Opry as one of the highest honors of her career. About the country music great the Grand Ole Opry website states, “Martina McBride has that kind of once-in-a-generation voice that’s so phenomenal you’d be happy to listen to her sing the phone book — so thank Heaven she chose to sing country music instead.”
McBride’s 2021 schedule includes touring with Blake Sheldon on his Friends and Heroes Tour. About the tour McBride said, “It’s been a long year without live music and I’m so excited to say I’ll be joining my buddy Blake….”
In July McBride celebrated with the iconic group Alabama. She performed as the band’s “Very Special Guest” on the group’s 50th Anniversary Tour. About Alabama McBride reflects, “Alabama was one of the first concerts I went to as a kid. To be with them on tour is a full circle moment!”
Another highlight for McBride in 2021 is the October 1 release in vinyl of her famous “White Christmas” album. She first released the album in 1998 and again in 1999 with two new tracks. Then in 2007, the album was reissued with four new tracks. Finally in 2013, with new artwork and a new name, “The Classic Christmas Album”, the collection of holiday greats was released once again.
COVID-19 protocols that parallel New Mexico’s current indoor mask in public venues mandate will be followed before, during and after the concert on Wednesday evening.
Lea County welcomes the opportunity to orchestrate this very special and memorable evening for the community to enjoy.
