The Original Crossroads Community Church Battle of the Food Trucks is back – not for the second or the third time but for the fourth time ever. This year more than 17 food trucks are participating. The event starts on Friday, October 15 from 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm and continues on Saturday, October 16, from 11:00 am – 8:00 pm.
The two-day extravaganza is being held on the Navajo Truck Bypass, located ½ mile west of the Seminole Highway intersection outside of Hobbs. The location will be easily identified. “Look for the big white tent” states the Crossroad Community Church (CCC) Facebook page. Signs will also be posted.
Activities for Everyone
Fun activities are planned for all ages, including axe throwing, a corn hole tournament on Saturday, a kid’s area that includes inflatables, games and contests and a super raffle with great prizes. Special features are a dunk tank where folks will get chance to “Dunk a Lea County Deputy” and, of course, great entertainment.
According to the CCC Facebook page the Corn Hole Tournament is scheduled for 2:00 on Saturday. Entry fee for each team is $20.00. Registration will take place at the Battle of the Food Trucks on Friday from 4:00 – 9:00 pm or on Saturday from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Signs will be posted that show people where to go to register, Proceeds from the corn hole challenge will be added to those that are raised through the Battle of the Food Trucks to aid two needy Hobbs families.
The Justin Kemp Band is Scheduled to Perform
On Friday night the Justin Kemp Band will be performing. If you don’t already know, Justin Kemp is a home grown Hobbs boy. Growing up in a musical family, Justin, during his early years, was influenced by greats like Brooks and Dunn, George Jones and Merle Haggard. In 2019, the Justin Kemp Band was added to lists of country artists to watch. Justin’s father is part of the group. Justin, his father and the other band members are hoping the group’s new release “Borrow A Kiss” will make it on the charts. Maybe the band will perform the new song for Friday night’s audience, and you will be one of the first ever to hear it performed.
At kess11.medium.com Justin talks a little about his feelings about Hobbs. “Well how cool is it that my town turns out some good talent? There is not really any other country artists in my area; it is a very heavy rock scene. I play some gigs here, I like to stay loyal to my hometown crowd,” he says.
Battle of the Food Trucks
Many of the food trucks participating in the “Battle of the Food Trucks” are well known in the surrounding area. Some are making their debut at the event. Event-goers will vote on the food they like best. No one knows which trucks will be favorites in the eyes of the public. Only time will tell the outcome.
Although CCC has not published a list on its Facebook page as of this writing of the food trucks that are participating in the 4th Annual Battle of the Food Trucks, area favorites like Tacos el Paisa, known for fresh homemade, soft corn tortillas, Yaya’s Food Truck, known for fast service and good food, Rock N’Taco, liked for good food and its rock and roll music and the well-known Mama E’s Food Truck and Catering will very likely be on the list.
Food trucks in today’s world are becoming very popular, and they are popping up all over Lea County. According to a recent article at the CHEF’STORE website, the food truck industry is growing and growing quickly. “For first-time restaurant owners, food trucks offer the opportunity to experiment, be creative, and potentially see great returns.” Friday and Saturday’s battle will feature such experimenting and creativity, all to support a most worthwhile cause.
Proceeds Benefit those in Need
All proceeds raised from this year’s Battle of the Food Trucks will go to two Hobbs families with special needs children. “We will be granting a wish for each child and their family!” reads a statement by a Crossroads Community Church spokesperson on its Facebook page.
