“The 11th” was written in 2005 by David J. LeMaster. Published by Brooklyn Publishers, LLC, the work is based around five different groups – Heather and David at the airport and then at their home, the high school math class, the high school office, a pair of parents in two different places and finally the high school history class. The story unfolds with many moving parts.
The drama talks about how 9/11 changed the lives of everyday people and takes place in a high school setting. Students, teachers, counsellors and parents all interact with one another. “They are people who weren’t in New York or Washington on that day, but were drastically affected, just like you, and each has a story to tell,” states Brooklyn Publishers synopsis of the play.
A brief video clip of Hobbs High School’s rendition of the play can be found on the Hobbs Chamber of Commerce Facebook page.
Other “patriotic tributes” planned by Hobbs High School to round out the school’s Veterans Day observance are a “Tree of Life” created by the HHS English and History classes, patriotic poetry readings from students of the Speech and Debate Department, an A Capella choir performance, students’ video interviews of veterans and original patriotic artwork created by HHS art students, announces Hobbs High School.
