Hobbs City Manager Manny Gomez announced in his September 2021 Monthly Report the appointment of long-standing employee Julie Nymeyer as Executive Assistant to the City of Hobbs. Nymeyer’s first day of work in her new role was October 18.

According to a City of Hobbs November 23 press release (PDF), Nymeyer has been with the city for 21 years — five of which were with the Police Department and 16 of which have been with the Engineering Department.

Before working for Hobbs, Nymeyer worked at the Lea County dispatch center for seven years and at the State of Texas for five years.

In total Nymeyer brings 33 years of public service to the table as Hobbs’ Executive Assistant.

Nymeyer’s promotion is the result of the October 1 retirement of Ann Betzen, who served the city for numerous years in the positions of Executive Assistant and Risk Manager.

Coupled with the promotion of Nymeyer to the position of Executive Assistant is the appointment of Selena Estrada as Risk Manager for the City of Hobbs. City Manager Gómez stated in his September 2021 report that more information about the specific duties and responsibilities Estrada will assume will be announced at a future date.

According to the city’s press release, “In 1984 Ms. Nymeyer was instrumental in upgrading from handwritten and hard copies of records to computer systems and digital recordkeeping at the Hobbs Police Department. She has managed the Planning Board with City of Hobbs Engineering and coordinated on multiple large projects and annual deadlines, including areas of FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), ICIP (Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan), and CDBG (Community Development Block Grant).”

Included in Nymeyer’s new role is the responsibility of managing both the calendars of the mayor and the city manager, states the press release. Nymeyer will also prepare proclamations and presentation materials, as well as “communications with the public to resolve issues requiring City services.” She will additionally participate in discussions about and the preparation of the “annual budget and social service requests from a variety of non-profit agencies”.

The press release states, “Julie Nymeyer has been married to Earl Nymeyer for 21 years, and they share 6 children, 19 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and enjoy nothing more than spending time with their loved ones.”

Nymeyer was born in Carlsbad and moved to Hobbs in 1982. About her life in Hobbs Nymeyer says, “I have enjoyed serving my home of Southeast New Mexico for 33 years. It will be my pleasure to not only continue with the organization but to serve it in an even more impactful way. The excitement of working closer with the City Commission and City Manager is an opportunity I am sure will require a lot of me, and I look forward to taking on [this opportunity] in the coming days. Giving the citizens of our community the extra time and going the extra mile for them is the quality of service I expect for myself and [I] will strive to always provide.”

Understanding that Nymeyer is focused on the betterment of Hobbs and to attract new opportunities to the community as well as to making improvements to the opportunities that already exist, City Manager Gomez stated, “The skills, knowledge, and experience of Julie Nymeyer set the standard for this position. I have known and worked with her for 16 years and always easily recognized her abilities and the level of reliability she provides to all coworkers in and outside of her department, as well as the level of customer service she commits to herself.”

Ms. Nymeyer may be contacted at 575-397-9206.
