Hobbs police are investigating two deaths that happened on Tuesday, February 15. The two deaths are seemingly unrelated, coincidentally occurring on the same day. One of the two is quite likely a homicide, though investigations for both are ongoing.

Officials are asking the public to come forward with any information they might have regarding the incidents.

Land Death

Early Tuesday evening, February 15, at approximately 6:19 pm, officers responded to a “disturbance call” at the Four Seasons Apartments, 2405 North Jefferson Street, in Hobbs. Upon their arrival Hobbs Police Department (HPD) officers located inside the residence 27-year-old Cheyenne Land, of Hobbs, who was unresponsive, states a press release (PDF) dated Wednesday, February 16, from the HPD.

The press release goes on to say that Hobbs Emergency Medical Services (EMS) “responded and attempted life-saving measures. Land was pronounced deceased on scene.”

HPD have conducted numerous interviews, and “an autopsy will be performed in the coming days.”

Barron Homicide

In a second February 16, HPD press release (PDF), the department states that HPD officers responded at approximately 11:50 pm, on Tuesday, February 15, to a “shots fired call”, at 1524 Yeso Place, in Hobbs.

The press release continues that HPD officers “located Omar Barron”, age 24, of Hobbs, inside the residence. Barron was “unresponsive” and “had sustained injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.”

Although Hobbs EMS technicians responded and attempted “life-saving measures”, Barron “succumbed to his injuries”.
