On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 4 – 6, The City of Hobbs will host its annual Fireworks Safe Zone. The three-day event will take place at the Hobbs Industrial Air Park (HIAP) located at 5425 Jack Gomez Blvd.
A City of Hobbs press release (PDF) states, “The Safe Zone is an opportunity for citizens to light any type of firework in a safe environment with trained personnel present, as well as away from neighborhoods with consideration for neighbors and their pets. This is an opportunity for everyone to indulge and safely enjoy this time of year.”

- July 5 – 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm
- July 6 – 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Important Information About the Safe Zone
- Safe Zone gates will remain locked except during Safe Zone regular hours of operation.
- Fireworks of all sizes and kinds are allowed in the Safe Zone, even if illegal within Hobbs City Limits.
- Explosive items other than fireworks are NOT allowed to be “lit or blown up”.
- Alcohol is Prohibited in the Safe Zone.
- Pets are NOT allowed in the Safe Zone.
- Participants are expected to “appropriately” dispose of trash and leave the Safe Zone area clean and without debris.
“Any behavior deemed inappropriate or disrespectful to others present may result in the offender(s) being asked to leave to maintain the health and safety of all.”

General Information
According to the National Drought Mitigation Center, the majority of Lea and Gaines counties remains in a state of Severe to Moderate Drought. This status has caused most communities in these counties to institute fireworks “bans and restrictions”.
The City of Hobbs reminds the public that “while current weather conditions make it easy for wildfires to quickly spread, many behaviors and activities around this holiday place life and property at risk in cities as well. More than a quarter of fires reported on the Fourth of July are caused by fireworks, showing that proper precautions were not taken and that users’ behaviors were not safe. Do not make yourself or your loved ones a statistic. It is the responsibility of us all to keep healthy, well-maintained properties and to monitor each other’s activities for a safer community.”
Updates about the City of Hobbs’ Safe Zone and annual fireworks show – slated this year for Wednesday, July 3 – will be posted on the City of Hobbs Facebook and Instagram pages.
All details about these events are subject to change or cancellation as a result of “drought and safety concerns”. All Fourth of July activities will be carried out in “pursuant to Hobbs Municipal Code Section 8.12.040.”
