A Friday July 5 Hobbs Fire Department (HFD) press release confirms that one person was killed in a fireworks explosion in Hobbs on July 4. According to the press release, HPD responded to an “…emergency call for service regarding a traumatic injury in the 1300 block of West Sanger.”

When HFD officers arrived at the West Sanger Street scene, they determined that “…an individual had sustained life threatening injuries as a result of a fireworks explosion.” Emergency medical treatment was immediately administered onsite, after which the individual was transported to the emergency room at Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital. Although medical personnel worked their hardest, the individual succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Comments on Facebook note that the injured party was not at the “Safe Zone” provided by the City of Hobbs when the fireworks tragedy took place. One contributor states “Lots of fireworks going off all around us.”

HFD asks the public to always “prioritize safety” when it comes to fireworks. The press release states,”…utilize the City of Hobbs safe zone, and follow all guidelines regarding the use of fireworks. The City of Hobbs remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.”

Further details about the July 4 fireworks fatality in Hobbs have not been released to the public.
