People living or doing business in Hobbs will need to prepare for some slight adjustments to the typical operating hours of many city services.

The City of Hobbs has announced new hours of operation effective Monday, March 7. City offices will be open Monday — Thursday, 8:00 am — 6:00 pm and Friday, 8:00 am — 12:00 pm (noon). 

Offices affected by the new hours are:

  • City Manager’s Office
  • Clerk’s Office
  • Communications/Public Relations
  • Community Services and Code Enforcement
  • Legal
  • Engineering and Planning 
  • Finance
  • Fire Marshal’s Office
  • Fire Prevention
  • Human Resources
  • Information Technology
  • Legal
  • Motor Vehicle Department (MVD)
  • Utilities
  • Water Office

City Hall doors will be open 8:00 am — 6:00 pm, Monday —Thursday and 8:00 am — 12:00 pm, Friday, although “on-call” services will not change.

Public Survey Conducted By City

The City of Hobbs conducted a public survey about its hours of operation via social media. The survey took place between December 16, 2021 and January 18, 2022. During this 34-day period, 241 responses from the public were received.

The majority of responses opted for the new schedule that becomes effective on March 7.

About the change of hours a February 24 press release (PDF) from the city’s Director of Communications Meghan Mooney says, “This change will create more convenience for citizens who have frequently requested longer hours during the week while also allowing full-time employees to maintain a 40-hour work schedule.”

The press release goes on to say that paramount in the city’s decision to change its hours of operation are “… the health and wellness mindset of our employees…,” states the press release. Improving “retention and recruitment” and providing the public with more flexible hours we’re also key. 

About the new hours Hobbs City Manager Manny Gomez said, “While a team organization, the City of Hobbs is family-centered. My main focus in this decision was our employees and increasing convenience for our customers.”

Some Things Will Not Change 

It is important for the public to understand that no changes have been made to on-call services. These services are always available “no matter the hours of operation”. 

The public is free to contact a city department whenever a need evolves. Call the department’s listed phone number, and “… leave a message after hours of operation or message The City of Hobbs on Facebook or Instagram,” states the press release. 

For utilities (water lines, water leaks and such), the after-hours, on-call phone number is (575)370-1519.

For all emergencies call 9-1-1. 

For all non-emergency dispatch purposes call (575)397-9265.
