Municipal election results tally

Municipal Elections took place in Hobbs and Lovington on Tuesday, March 1. Called by the New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver, the March 1 elections were for municipalities that did not “opt-in” to what is known as the “Regular Local Election“. 

According to the City of Hobbs, election results are currently unofficial and become official on Thursday, March 10, after being canvassed by the Court.

Commissioner District 1 (two-year term)

  • Write-In – 13 

Commissioner District 4 (four-year term) 

  • Debra Jean Brady – 33
  • Joseph D. Calderon – 42

Commissioner District 5 (four-year term) 

  • Roy Dwayne Penick –146

Commissioner District 6 (four-year term) 

  • Donald Ray Gerth – 50

Municipal Judge (four-year term)

  • Bobby M. Arther – 620

Resolution No. 7142 (“Proposition No. 1) — proposing an “economic development strategic plan ordinance” 

  • YES – 575
  • NO – 115

Lovington Unofficial Results

Results were provided to the Lea County Tribune by the City of Lovington’s Clerk Shannon Lester. These results are also available on the city’s webpage.

Commissioner District 3:

  • Bernard Eugene Butcher — 44
  • Howard Doyle Roberts — 81

City Commissioner District 5:

  • Lizabeth L. White — 44

Municipal Judge:

  • Barbara Gray Campbell — 215

General Information

The Municipal Officer Election is a non-partisan election. Political party affiliations of candidates are not listed on the ballot beside candidates names. 

In accord with Secretary of State Toulouse Oliver’s Municipal Election Proclamation “top-two runoff” elections will be conducted pursuant to Section 1-22-16 NMSA (New Mexico Statutes Annotated) and held on Tuesday, April 12, 2022.
