The Hobbs Senior Center, after three weeks of being checked and examined and then checked and examined again, has received an “errorless compliance assessment” from the North Central New Mexico Economic Development District Non-Metro Area Agency on Aging (NMAAA).
In a letter from the NMAAA, Hobbs Senior Center Director Angela Courter was informed about the positive 2021-2022 Compliance Assessment. Staff were complimented with regards to their “professionalism, organization and operation”.
A Monday, June 13, press release (PDF) from Meghan Mooney, City of Hobbs Director of Communications states that “a compliance assessment for senior centers is completed every 18 months to ensure the facility has all documentation up to date, all data entered correctly, financial statements reconciled and policies followed.” Staff procedures must also comply with the employee handbook. The assessment takes place over a three-week period and is completed with an exit interview between representatives from the NMAAA and staff from the senior center.
The Assessment
The assessment itself is a 12-page document that “…includes over 2,000 pages of documentation provided by the Hobbs Senior Center; each document must accurately reflect the information entered into their [the Senior Center’s] electronic system.”
Obviously, the opportunity for error is large. However, the center’s “…hard copies and data entry were completely accurate and reflective of each other, displaying diligence and attention to detail the staff at this facility practice daily,” states Mooney in the press release.
Hours of Operation and Meal Programs
Hobbs Senior Center staff of 11 serves more than 1,300 members.
Hours of operation are from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday – Friday, with lunch served at noon in the cafeteria. A Grab ‘N’ Go lunch option, takeaway, is provided from 12:45 – 1:00 pm in the parking lot.
A Meals on Wheels program is available to “homebound individuals 60 years of age and older”. One meal a day is delivered Monday – Friday to the doors of qualifying individuals. All who are eligible for this very helpful program are encouraged to apply.
The center’s director Angela Courter encourages community members to “check out the facility” and “those who are eligible to join as members to enjoy the many games, classes, and activities” that are held throughout the week all year long. A popular event is the member dances that are held on the first and third Fridays of each month.
Director Courter sums up the important role the Hobbs center plays in the lives of so many of the community’s seniors. She says, “Our staff do a phenomenal job serving the members and citizens they have come to love and know as friends. Each of our members is special to us, and we really try to show that to them through excellent care and attention.”
