Hobbs Municipal Court will reopen at its normal location – 301 North Turner Street – on Monday, July 10. The Turner Street location was closed on March 1 to allow for an extensive remodeling project.
Municipal Court Clerk Shannon Carter-Arguello told Permian Proud that plans for and design of the renovations evolved over a two-year period. City staff’s aim was to improve “functionality and security throughout the facility”. City documents state that the remodel has been”…designed to provide safe refuge in the building or safe retreat from the building.”
A June 21 City of Hobbs press release (PDF) states, “City leadership are proud to share that this reopening is over two (2) months ahead of schedule, thanks to the diligent planning, communication, and dedication between City Staff and the contractors.”
About the remodel Carter-Arguello told Everything Lubbock, “This will place us in a better position to serve citizens as well as provide a safer environment for our staff and citizens. We are grateful to all involved in this endeavor, including City leadership for the resources and funds to make it happen.”
Staff will relocate to Turner Street starting Wednesday, July 5 through Friday, July 7. On these days Hobbs Municipal Court will be closed. The press release states, “Citizens will not be penalized for any court appearances assigned during this time, and no late fees will be assessed on these dates.”
Reopening at the Turner Street location is set for Monday, July 10. Hours of operation will not change – 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Friday.
Phone numbers and email addresses of the Hobbs Municipal Court staff and offices remain unchanged.
Carter-Arguello states in the press release, “Many hours and staff input were put into the remodeling plan, and we are so grateful to the contractors and General Services Department for updating the Hobbs Municipal Court to better serve and protect the citizens of Hobbs. … We are proud to debut the finished project. Thank you to City leadership for the support and to the public for their patience during this time. We hope to see you soon at the new facility – but for all the right reasons!”
