Lea County officials conducted a drug bust on Tuesday, September 5, seizing almost $163,000 worth of drugs – fentanyl and methamphetamine. Authorities have not as of yet released additional information about the ongoing case.
Lea County Drug Task Force (LCDTF) agents with the assistance of Lea County Sheriff’s deputies conducted “a vehicle stop for a narcotics investigation” on Sunday, September 3. A narcotics K-9 dog was brought to the scene to sniff out drugs and “… alerted on the vehicle,” states a LCDTF press release. The “vehicle was subsequently transported and secured for search warrant execution.”
Two days later, on Tuesday, September 5, a search warrant on the vehicle was “authored and executed”. While conducting the authorized search, agents “seized approximately 15,000 blue pills suspected to contain fentanyl and approximately 2 pounds of crystallized substance suspected to be methamphetamine.” The press release also states that approximately $500 in cash was confiscated.
David Ibarra, deputy commander of the LCDTF, told KOB4 news, “We had already received information in reference to a person bringing in narcotics into Lea County prior to the stop.”
The Lea County Tribune will provide updated information about the case as soon as it becomes available.
